.KEY MESSAGES...

- A cold front moves through the area this morning. Slightly
  cooler, yet still above normal temperatures are expected
  through the weekend.

- 30-50% chance of precipitation on Monday. While a few
  snowflakes could mix in, primarily rain is expected.

- Another storm system will move into the region Wednesday
  through Thursday, bringing a 20-40% chance for rain.

Today...

Patchy cloud cover blanketed the region overnight, keeping
temperatures in the 50s and 60s by 2 AM. A cold front draped just
north of a line from Columbus, NE to Onawa, IA will continue to
drift southeastward over for forecast area today, as an upper trough
shifts southeast across southern Canada and into the Great Lakes
region. Temperatures will be slightly cooler, but still well above
normal, in the mid 60s to low 70s this afternoon. Highs on Sunday
will dip a little further still, ranging from the mid 50s to low
60s. Any moisture associated with this system looks to remain north
of the region, allowing dry weather to prevail through Sunday.

Monday through Tuesday...

The next low pressure system to effect the region will move out of
the Rockies early Monday morning. Isentropic lift ahead of the
incoming low will bring showers to the forecast area by late Monday
morning, overspreading eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa into the
afternoon and evening. The latest run of the GFS has fallen into
step with the majority of the other models, taking the surface low a
smidge farther north, into northern Kansas Monday afternoon, which
in turn keeps the colder air just off to our north. Thus snow is
looking less and less likely at this juncture. Light rain will
linger into Monday night before pushing east with the departing low.
Temperatures will top out in the 50s Monday afternoon, but are
expected to dip into the 30s Monday night.

Dry conditions return Tuesday as weak ridging builds back into the
Central Plains. Temperatures remain cooler on Tuesday, in the upper
40s and low 50s.

Wednesday and Beyond...

The next weather system arrives Wednesday into Thursday. While the
timing and exact details are still to be seen, ensembles remain in
decent agreement that any precipitation would come in the form of
rain. Daytime highs look to remain a few degrees above normal in the
mid 50s. Overnight lows are forecast to stay near to just above
freezing through the end of the upcoming work week.

VFR conditions will prevail through the period. A cold front is
making it`s way through eastern Nebraska and western Iowa this
morning, bringing winds around to the northwest. Expect wind
speeds around 10-12 kts through the early afternoon, with a few
gusts up to 20 kts possible. Wind speeds diminish to around 5
kts or less by 00Z this evening.

Today and Sunday...

Temperatures this morning are in the 40s and 50s under partly to
mostly cloudy skies. A cold front located along a line from
North Platte to Norfolk is steadily moving south. The cold
front will push through southern portions the area shortly
after sunrise, with winds shifting to the north behind the
front. Cooler, but above normals are expected today, as highs
climb into the mid 60s (north) to low 70s (south). Winds
decrease throughout the day, becoming light during the
afternoon. Overall, mostly sunny skies, light winds and above
normal temperatures will result in a very pleasant day. lows
tonight will be in the 30s. Patchy fog development is possible
tonight-Sunday morning, though uncertainty remains on how
widespread and dense fog will be.

Winds shift to the south on Sunday ahead of an approaching shortwave
trough. Sunday will be another seasonably warm day as highs climb
into the 60s. Get outside and enjoy the weather if you can, as
cooler weather arrives next week.

Monday and Tuesday..

A shortwave trough moves into the plains on Monday, bringing the
next chance for rain to the area. Recent model trends continue to
shift rain further north and east, bringing uncertainty on how much
rain will impact the area. 00z ECMWF and GFS ensembles, and the NBM
reflect this trend well, with a less than 20% chance for areas
southeast of the Tri-Cities to see accumulating rainfall. North
and east of the Tri-Cities, rain chances are higher (20-40%),
but accumulations look to be light, with accumulations generally
below 0.10". Temperatures in the 40s and 50s will mean that
anything that falls will remain entirely as rain. Any rain comes
to an end around sunset as the low moves into the midwest.

Seasonable weather is expected on Tuesday behind the low, as the
area sits under the influence of high pressure system in the
midwest. Highs will be in the 50s, with partly cloudy skies and
light winds.

Wednesday Onwards...

Troughing over the west coast will move into the area during the
latter half of the forecast period. In response, a low at the
surface will track from the southern plains into the Midwest. There
remains spread in the exact track and position of this low. The GFS,
ECMWF and their ensembles indicate the best chances (15-30%) for
rain will be south and east of the forecast area and rain
chances are dependent on the exact track of the low. Overall,
southeastern portions of the area look to be the most favored to
see rain with this system, though the exact details remain
uncertain. Seasonable temperatures are expected through the end
of the forecast period with highs in the 40s and 50s and lows in
the 30s.

For KGRI/KEAR Airports:

Northerly winds of 10-15kts will continue through the early
afternoon, with gusts falling below 10kts by the late afternoon,
and becoming light and variable Saturday night. FEW-SCT high
level clouds are possible through Saturday afternoon. Early
Sunday morning, patchy fog development is possible at KGRI and
KEAR. There remains a fair amount of uncertainty on how
widespread and dense fog will be, have indicated this potential
with a 6SM BR group.
