.KEY MESSAGES...

- There is a 20-40% chance of a few snow showers for areas
  mainly south of Hwy 2 in southeastern Nebraska and
  southwestern Iowa tonight. Little to no accumulation is
  expected.

- The cold air will stick around through the start of next week,
  with highs in the 20s and 30s. Sub-zero wind chills will be
  possible Sunday-Tuesday mornings.

- A mid-week storm system will bring our next best chance for precipitation
  in the form of rain and snow.

.DISCUSSION...

A weak, mid-level shortwave trough will slide across central and
northern Kansas this evening/tonight. This will bring a 20-40%
chance of a few light snow showers to areas mainly south of Highway
2 in southeastern Nebraska/southwestern Iowa. A few areas may
receive a dusting at most with this system. Lows tonight/Saturday
morning will bottom out in the single digits and teens below zero.
Wind chill values will range from around -2 to 12.

Saturday brings some slightly warmer temperatures as northwest
flow sets up over the region and an upper/mid-level ridge pushes
east over the Canadian Rockies. Expect highs to warm into the
low 20s to mid-30s. Clouds are expected to decrease from mostly
cloudy in the morning to partly cloudy by noon and mostly sunny
by 3pm. Should cloud cover stick around a bit longer than
expected, expect temperatures to be a couple of degrees cooler
than currently forecast.

Sunday morning low temperatures will be in the single digits to mid-
teens. Winds gusting to around 10-20mph will make things feel pretty
cold, with wind chill values ranging from around five above zero to
ten below zero. The ridge will continue to slip eastward, with the
ridge axis coming over the western Rockies by Sunday evening.
Expected high temperatures will remain in the 20s and 30s for both
Sunday and Monday.

The extended forecast has the ridge settling in over the Rockies,
with northwest flow over the Omaha CWA. There is a hint of some
maybe slightly warmer temperatures heading into mid-week, although
weather pattern and remaining snowpack will impact how warm we are
able to get.

A mid-week storm system will slide southwest across the region,
coming from the PACNW. This will bring at least a small chance of
rain and snow to the region Wednesday and Thursday.

Quiet weather across the area tonight. There`s a small chance of
flurries (15-20%) in the KLNK area through 12Z, but not enough
confidence to include in the TAF issuance. Otherwise, expect
quiet weather and VFR conditions to prevail. Northwesterly winds
will remain under 10 knots through the 24 hour period.

  Osborne, and Mitchell Counties until 6 AM this morning.

- Total snowfall amounts from this system are expected to range
  from a trace to just over an inch. The highest amounts are
  expected to be in north central Kansas.

- High temperatures today through Monday will range from the 20s
  to 40s. Temperatures warm up Tuesday through Friday with highs
  mostly in the 50s and 60s.

- The next precipitation chance (15% to 30%) is Wednesday
  afternoon into Thursday. Most of the precipitation is expected
  to be in the form of rain.

Overnight into early this morning...

A Winter Weather Advisory continues for Rooks, Osborne, and Mitchell
Counties until 6 AM this morning. Snow showers continue to move
across north central Kansas and far southern Nebraska. This activity
is expected to continue through most, if not all, of the overnight
period. The coverage and intensity of the snow is expected to
decrease as the night continues. The expected total snowfall amounts
from this system have decreased to a trace to just over an inch. The
snow should mostly be out of the area by sunrise today. Winds across
north central Kansas and south central and central Nebraska are
light at around 5 MPH so blowing snow is not a concern. Low
temperatures this morning will range from the single digits in
northwest portions of the area to the low 20s in southeast portions.

Today through Friday night...

There are not many changes to the forecast today through next week.
High temperatures today through Monday are expected to range from
the 20s to the 40s. Low temperatures tonight and tomorrow night will
mostly range from around 0 degrees to the teens. Temperatures are
still expected to warm up on Tuesday with the presence of a surface
trough with highs mostly in the 50s and 60s. Similar temperatures
will continue through Friday with highs on Friday expected to be in
the 60s and 70s. Low temperatures Monday night through Friday night
will mostly be in the 20s and 30s. A passing shortwave trough may
bring rain showers (15% to 30% chance) Wednesday afternoon into
Thursday. Some of the precipitation may be in the form of snow
Wednesday night depending on the temperatures and placement of the
precipitation.

For KGRI/KEAR Airports:

An upper level disturbance passing across north central Kansas
this evening is spreading mid-level stratus north across the
terminals this evening. Expect CIGS to continue to lower to
around 5KFT, but remain VFR, during the overnight hours, with
any snowfall likely staying well south of either terminal. Winds
will be light overnight, becoming north northwesterly behind
the departing disturbance Saturday afternoon as skies clear
across the region. Overall, moderate confidence with VFR
conditions prevailing through the period.
