Today and Tomorrow:

A broad look at satellite imagery this evening shows the diminishing
influence of the mid/upper trough to the east with northerly flow
set up ahead of increasing riding building in from the west. A bank
of stratus has set up with a colder and drier airmass sinking down
with it, making for a chilly evening despite winds that are expected
to trend towards calm. Overnight low forecasts continue to feel the
effects of the low clouds, with a slight bump up to those
temperatures that only grace 32 degrees in northeast Nebraska, with
the entire area staying insulate as cold air advection at the
surface slows.

That stratus may be hard to kick for at least the first half of
tomorrow, with highs once again being stymied at values within a
degree or two of 50. Winds will stay much quieter compared to the
previous day, with dissipating clouds and increasing surface
pressure set to make fog a strong possibility across the
forecast area heading into the evening hours. Lows are also
expected to reach close to freezing, but not fully sink past it.
Nevertheless, those cool temperatures and what are anticipated
to be weak winds will combine to make frost and a few areas of
freezing possible heading into the weekend.

Saturday and Beyond:

After that chilly morning, our mid/upper pattern begins to slowly
amplify broad ridging that centers itself over the central CONUS
through Monday. High temperatures respond Saturday with a push into
the 50s/60s, while 60s become widespread Sunday. These temperatures
end up being 5-10 degrees above normal for this time of year, with
no strong winds to spoil the comfy fall temperatures. Broader model
guidance remains in favor of a dry week as would-be rain-makers
continue to miss us to the north. The west and east coasts remain
quite active, with our next chance any any rainfall arriving
whenever the building trough of the Pacific Coast next week
ejects eastward. Highs during this period will continue the
above-normal trend, so make the most of it and enjoy some
festive fall outdoor time (or yard work as the leaves continue
to pile up).

Low cigs ranging from FL008 to FL020 are common across the area
and are expected to linger through most of the day. Some breakup
of clouds is expected this afternoon, but cloud bases will
remain close to 1500 feet. MVFR cigs are expected to persist.

Over the course of the day, light northerly winds will slowly become
southerly from west to east.
