Smoke Fcst thru Sat
Air quality across the region will continue to be affected by wildfire smoke this evening through Saturday. In addition to the ongoing wildfires west of the Cascades and in California, the new large fires known as Watson Creek in Lake County southwest of Summer Lake and the Stone Fire in Modoc County west of Canby will continue to produce smoke through the weekend. This image is from the experimental HRRR Smoke Model and depicts a forecast of near surface smoke concentration at 6 PM PDT today/Friday evening. Generally speaking, northeast winds will blow smoke southwestward during the late night and morning, and northwest winds will push it southeastward in the afternoon and evening hours through Saturday. This means that the best air quality will continue to be along the coast north of Brookings as well as north of Grants Pass into Douglas County. Better air quality than has been generally observed in the last couple of days, mostly in the moderate range or better, is expected in the Rogue Valley. Conditions in northern California and across the east side will generally be unhealthy, though changes in wind direction may result in periods of better air quality north of Chiloquin and Summer Lake in Klamath and Lake counties.
