Surf Warning
A very large and long period west-northwest swell will move across the southwestern California waters through Tuesday. This event will likely bring the largest surf of the season, so far. Damaging warning level surf is expected tonight on the Central Coast and continue through Tuesday morning. Large advisory level surf is expected to begin south of Point Conception early Monday morning then continue through Tuesday evening. Surf heights of 18-25 feet will be common on the Central Coast with local sets up to 30 feet possible. Local sets up to 15 feet will be possible along the west facing beaches of Ventura County and up to 12 feet along west facing beaches in Los Angeles County. The surf will likely produce breaking waves in the Morro Bay Harbor entrance and possibly across the Ventura Harbor entrance. The surf will bring dangerous rip currents and long shore currents to all areas, along with minor coastal flooding and beach erosion. Waves can suddenly sweep over previously dry beach areas, rocks, or jetties near the water’s edge. Watch children and pets, stay back from the water’s edge and never turn your back on the ocean. Powerful breaking waves are expected in the surf zone creating very dangerous conditions for surfing and swimming.
